The year it became THE MFFL

The league changed its name. Four seasons as the Glover Fantasy Football League, and from 2017 it was THE MFFL. Michael Freking won the first one under the new banner and made it look routine.

He went 11-2, took the one seed, allowed 1,019.9 points — the third-fewest anyone has managed in a season — and then produced one of the two most violent weeks in league history. In the semifinal he put 175.5 on Drew Cakouros, who scored 77.3. A 98.2-point win in a game that ends someone's season. Only one result has ever beaten it, and it beat it by two tenths of a point.

He won the title with Blake Bortles at quarterback — the only Bortles championship in MFFL history — behind Todd Gurley in his Offensive Player of the Year season and a rookie Kareem Hunt, with Tyreek Hill and Martavis Bryant outside, Charles Clay at tight end, Kenyan Drake in the flex, the Ravens defense and Matt Bryant.

The final was a let-down after that. Freking 122.5, Ben Catudal 67.6. Catudal was in his first MFFL season, took the two seed at 9-4, beat Roddy Tobin comfortably in the semifinal, and then scored 67.6 with the title on it. He would spend the next several years being fine and never quite getting back.

Tobin finished third for the second season running. Nine and four, the three seed, a 110.5 in the quarterfinal, and then 78.4 against Catudal. The pattern by this point was hard to miss.

Adam Murray hung 129.7 on Ricky Robinson in week thirteen while Robinson scored 38.2, a 91.5-point margin and the second-biggest beating of the year. Murray still finished eleventh.

Kai Salony played his only season here and finished last. He scored 46.6 in week eight and 49.6 in the consolation final in week sixteen, bookending a year nobody enjoyed.
