Standings & superlatives โJoe Hegarty finally wins one, and the one seed finally holds
The MFFL had not been won by a one seed since 2017. Five seed, seven seed, seven seed, two seed โ four straight years of the bracket eating its best team. In 2024 the best team in the league won the whole thing, which by this point counted as a surprise.
Joe Hegarty went 10-4, took the one seed, and won three playoff games. It was his first title in twelve seasons of trying, and Josh Allen was most of the reason: 51.8 in week fourteen, 41.2 in the quarterfinal, 22.9 in the final. In the semifinal Allen only managed 11 and it did not matter, because Jonathan Taylor went for 45.8 and Chuba Hubbard for 28.5, and Hegarty scored 153.2 to beat Ari Lloyd-Farber's 130.5. Lloyd-Farber got 26 from the Falcons defense, 22.2 from Baker Mayfield and 21 from Jameson Williams, scored the third-highest total anyone has ever put up in a losing effort, and went home.
The final was calmer. Taylor 25.6, Adam Thielen 23.0, Allen 22.9, and 108.1 was enough against Matt Stockbridge's 87.2. Stockbridge was chasing a third title and started Bryce Young in the championship game, which tells you how the last month had gone.
The season belonged statistically to Roddy Tobin, who scored 1,568.5 points โ the most anyone has scored in an MFFL season โ behind Lamar Jackson's 407.2 and Ja'Marr Chase's 260.4. He went 9-5, took the two seed, put 145.3 on Cam Ford in the quarterfinal, and lost the semifinal 123.8 to 110.4. Third place. He also owns the season's biggest beating, 156.4 to 77.2 over KJ Beckett in week ten.
Beckett's year is the other half of that joke. He scored 1,411.7 points, which in most seasons wins a division, went 6-8, and finished twelfth. He also allowed 1,446.2, second-most in league history. Somebody has to be on the other side of everyone's best week.
Drew Cakouros, going for three straight, scored 44.1 in the quarterfinal. It was the lowest score of the season. Rachaad White led his lineup with 12.1.
Pierce O'Sullivan had Saquon Barkley for 334.3 โ including 48.2 in week twelve โ and finished tenth.
