Season recaps

Written from each season's own numbers โ€” how it turned, who ran it, who collapsed, and how the title was won.

Cam Ford wins it in his first year

Cam Ford joined the league in 2016 and won it. Ten and three, the one seed, a bye, and then 97.5 in the semifinal and 131.4 in the final. There was no learning curve.

The title-game lineup was Andy Dalton, Ezekiel Elliott and Le'Veon Bell, Mike Evans and Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Gates, Golden Tate in the flex, the Chiefs defense and Matt Bryant. A rookie Elliott and Bell in the same backfield in a twelve-team league is most of the explanation.

Brady Vrettas also went 10-3 and got the three seed on tiebreakers, which is the kind of thing that decides a season quietly. He beat Drew Cakouros and Michael Freking to reach the final and then ran into Ford's best week of the playoffs, losing 131.4 to 93.3. Vrettas had the second-most points in the league and a plus 248 differential, the best mark in the field. It did not matter.

The strangest result of the year belongs to Sean Keohane, who posted a 155.4 in week four โ€” the highest single week anyone managed all season โ€” and beat Roddy Tobin by 79. Keohane finished eleventh at 6-7. It was his last season in the league, and he spent it beating good teams by 80 and losing to bad ones.

Adam Murray scored 25.9 in week five, which is the lowest score in league history that we have a record of. He lost that one to Keohane, who himself only put up 80.4. Murray went 3-10 and finished seventh, which the consolation bracket will do for you.

Ricky Robinson beat Murray by a tenth of a point in week twelve, the closest game of the season.

Tobin finished third with a point differential of minus 8.4. He was outscored across the season and still ended it as the third-best team in the league, which is either impressive or an indictment depending on your mood.

Ben Waterman finished twelfth in his last MFFL season, scoring 894.7 โ€” the fewest points anyone put up all year by more than 120.
