Drew Cakouros started 2-0, lost five straight, and then won nine consecutive games to finish the season. The last three of those were the playoffs. He is the only person in league history to have a five-game losing streak and a trophy in the same year.
The reason is Lamar Jackson. Jackson scored 415.4 points across fifteen starts, the most any player has ever produced for one MFFL manager in a season, and he did it in the year he was unanimously named MVP. Cakouros was 2-5 and holding the best fantasy asset in football. The rest of the schedule sorted itself out.
He took the three seed at 8-5, beat Joe Hegarty 113.0 to 90.0, then knocked Harrison Dolgoff out 123.1 to 108.9 on a week where Jackson gave him 37 and Saquon Barkley 26.3. Dolgoff had 32.6 from Jameis Winston and it was not enough.
The final was not close. Barkley went for 42.9 in week sixteen, Jackson added 29.7, and Cakouros won 122.0 to 76.5.
The man on the other end was Matt Stockbridge, playing his first MFFL season. He went 10-3, took the one seed, allowed the fewest points in the league, and had Christian McCaffrey for 349.4 — that season McCaffrey put up 2,392 yards from scrimmage. In the semifinal Stockbridge scored 141.0, the second-highest week of the year, and beat Ben Catudal by 26. In the final McCaffrey managed 17.3, Miles Sanders 21.6, and everyone else combined for 37.6. Tyler Lockett scored 1.2. Panthers defense scored zero.
Catudal had gone from twelfth to fourth in a year. KJ Beckett went the other way — defending champion to eleventh, 4-9. Brady Vrettas finished twelfth for the second season in three.
