Season recaps

Written from each season's own numbers โ€” how it turned, who ran it, who collapsed, and how the title was won.

Harrison Dolgoff goes from first to last

KJ Beckett won his second title and did it as the three seed, which is worth noting because it would become a habit. He went 9-4, beat Adam Deal in the quarterfinal, edged Roddy Tobin 92.8 to 91.6 in the semifinal, and then put 142.6 on Drew Cakouros in the final. That 142.6 was the highest score anyone posted all season, playoffs or otherwise, and he saved it for the last game. He did it with Philip Rivers, Darren McFadden and Denard Robinson at running back, Brandin Cooks and Allen Hurns outside, Jordan Reed at tight end, Delanie Walker in the flex, the Rams defense and Blair Walsh.

Cakouros had been the best team in the league all year. He went 11-2, took the one seed, and allowed 947.8 points, which is still the fewest anyone has given up in a season in twelve years of this league. He lost the final by 31.

The semifinal between Beckett and Tobin was the game of the year: 92.8 to 91.6, a 1.2-point margin with a place in the final on it. Tobin had gone 9-4 and taken the two seed. He has never been closer to a second title.

The real story of 2015 is at the other end. Harrison Dolgoff won the championship in 2014 and finished last in 2015. Twelfth of twelve, 5-8, with a point differential of minus 175.5. It got genuinely grim in the consolation bracket: he scored 31.6 in week fourteen and 31.1 in week fifteen, back-to-back weeks in the thirties, the two lowest scores of anyone's season apart from a Sean Keohane 31.0 in week four.

Keohane, for his part, went 2-11 and gave up 1,232.3 points while scoring 913.6. He finished tenth. That was his fourth and final season.

The closest games of the year both involved Brady Vrettas, who beat Ben Waterman by three tenths in week seven and then lost to Finn Suppelsa by four tenths in week ten. He finished third. Suppelsa and Adam Deal both played their last MFFL season that year.
